Police Treating EMU Football Player's Death as Homicide

emich.edu

Ypsilanti police say Eastern Michigan University student and football player Demarius Reed suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The 20 year-old was found dead in and apartment complex and LeForge and Clark Roads this morning.

Investigators believe Reed may have been the victim of a robbery, although no-one is in custody at this time.

An autopsy has been performed, but results won't be known for some time.

The junior from Chicago was a Communication, Media and Theater Arts major, and a wide receiver on the football team.

In an email to EMU students, faculty and staff, University President Susan Martin said the campus community is "deeply saddened" by Reed's death.

The school's athletic department says to honor Reed, Saturday's home game versus Ohio University will be played as scheduled.  A planned celebration of mascot Swoop's birthday, however, will be postponed.

Counseling is available at EMU's Snow Health Center for those who need it.

Anyone with information on Reed's death is asked to contact Ypsilanti police at (734) 483-9510, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.http://www.emich.edu/community-notice/
