Voters will be choosing from among 18 candidates to fill seven seats on the Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education next month. All but three of those candidates met some of the people whose votes they're courting Monday night at Ypsilanti Community High School.
Rather than having every candidate answer the same question, candidates took turns answering questions in small groups.
The questions ranged from the Superintendent's compensation package to plans for the district's vacant buildings to reversing a decline in enrollment.

Martha Valadez of Ypsilanti was among those who attended the forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Area and the group Fora Better Ypsi.
She says there are a lot of great candidates to consider.
"I'm listening to all of them, and I'm like, 'you're great, too.' So I'm glad that there was an opportunity for public comment, as well. For people to come and get their questions answered is good."
A forum featuring candidates for Ypsilanti's two contested city council races takes place Tuesday night at seven at the Ypsilanti Seniors Center on Congress Street.
