Some very large, small mouth bass may be coming to a new Ann Arbor rain garden. As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission and artist Joshua Wienerare looking for feedback some feedback on his proposal for steel sculptures.

From the City of Ann Arbor

On Tuesday, July 16, at 10 a.m., the artist will be at the location of the art and rain garden installation —the southeast corner of East Kingsley and South First streets. This will be another opportunity for the public to be introduced to the design and meet the design team for the installation in person. The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission will be hosting an information table at the Ann Arbor Townie Party on Monday, July 15, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The artist will be in attendance and exhibiting the design.
Joshua Wiener is a public artist from Colorado and is an accomplished stone sculptor. His public sculptures can be found in Florida, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado: Durango, Wheat Ridge, Broomfield, Castle Rock, Littleton, Denver, and Longmont. He is currently working on public commissions for San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Oklahoma City, Oakland Denver, Littleton, and Boulder, Colo.

The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission and the City of Ann Arbor selected the rain garden installation project as a location for public art. A selection panel, with membership that included stakeholders from the neighborhood, reviewed over 20 submissions for the project and selected Joshua Wiener to create artwork for the installation.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
