One of the most contested and most expensive congressional races in Michigan involved a former local mayor of Saline.
Saline's first female and longest serving mayor Gretchen Driskell lost her bid to replace incumbent Tim Walberg in Michigan's 7th Congressional district on Tuesday.
Driskell conceded Tuesday as early poll results showed Walberg with a major lead in the polls. Driskell said it was a "difficult night" after losing the seat that encompasses a western portion of Washtenaw county.
Driskell had campaigned for the seat for nearly two years. Both candidates in the 7th Congressional District raised more than $2 million in campaign funding.
