Washtenaw County, MI – Washtenaw County and some of its officials are named in a lawsuit filed by county Sheriff Dan Minzey. The suit was filed Wednesday in Washtenaw County circuit court.
The suit names the county, the county's board of commissioners, and county administrator Bob Guenzel. Minzey alleges that actions taken over the last several months by those named in the suit have combined to undermine and usurp the constitutional authority of his office, restricting the performance of his duties.
The lawsuit also seeks an immediate injunction to prevent threatened layoffs of Sheriff's deputies.
The county has been unable thus far to reach contractual agreements for police services with three townships. As a result, the county is considering a reduction in Sheriff department personnel.
