Spiders, Scorpions, And Tarantula Researchers Gathering For National Conference On EMU Campus

It's called The American Arachnological Society, and they are having their national meeting on the Eastern Michigan University campus June 22-26th.  EMU biology professor Cara Shillington is co-hosting the event and along with EMU student Matt Angelosanto spoke to 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry about her studies of arachnids and Matt's research on tarantulas.

The American Arachnological Society’s national meeting will be held at the EMU Student Center from June 22-26.  Co-hosted by EMU Professor Cara Shillingtonand Anne Danielson-Francois of the University of Michigan – Dearborn, the event is slated to attract faculty, students, and other arachnid fans from across the nation and abroad.

Shillington not only teaches at EMU but also heads a lab studying the physiological and behavioral ecology of ectothermic organisms, particularly tarantulas and other arachnids.  More than 100 people are expected to attend the conference, including students and researchers from Brazil and Taiwan.

The conference will include more than fifty oral presentations and twenty-five poster presentations on all arachnids, including spiders, harvestmen, scorpions, whip scorpions, and mites.
