Staffing Cuts Loom for Ann Arbor Schools

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Budget reductions may lead to the elimination of up to 64 teaching positions, and 104 total positions in the Ann Arbor School District.
District administrators presented their three-year budget projections Tuesday night. Those projections include six-point-four million dollars in reductions in the coming school year.
The school board also approved a plan for administrators to negotiate with office professionals to offer a buyout plan, since 14 percent of those positions are being eliminated.
The budget projections also call for additional reductions totaling about four-million dollars in 2007-2008, and one-point-five million dollars the following year.
