Students from Eastern Michigan University wrapped up a trip to National Arts Advocacy Day in at the nation’s capital Wednesday.
The pinnacle of the trip to D.C. was the opportunity to meet with federal lawmakers or their staff.
EMU students met with staff members of Michigan’s congressional delegation to push for more federal support to arts non-profits.
During the meeting with Senator Debbie Stabenow’s staff, the senator made a brief appearance to welcome the group to Washington.
EMU Junior Forest Osborne says the meeting was a chance to put what he’s learned this semester about arts funding and public policy to the test.
He says,
”We expressed how [strongly] we felt. I think the next time will be better because we have it more honed in on what we want to say and [the] things we want to highlight."
"It's been a great experience.", Osborne says.
About two dozen students, mostly from Eastern Michigan University, attended this year’s Arts Advocacy Day.
