A new online tool can help communities and individuals in the Great Lakes area plan for challenges climate change may cause.
The University of Michigan's Climate Center's Cities Impact Assessment Tool includes past climate data and projections into the future.
Director Beth Gibbons says an online map allow users to find a peer community that has the type of climate today that your region will have in 40 years. She says importantly you can filter by demographics to get an accurate comparison. "Climate change tends to exacerbate the existing vulnerabilities in our community and it disproportionately impacts the vulnerable members of our community," Gibbons says.
The online tool also provides a list of over 500 adaptation strategies communities are already using to deal with issues caused by climate change.
