Washtenaw County Commissioner Conan Smith Leaves The Board To Pursue His Passion

Conan Smith
Metro Matters

Washtenaw County CommissionerConan Smith is stepping down from the board to seek another job with the county.

I spoke with Smith to about his decision to leave and his plans to pursue a new job as Washtenaw County's Director of Community and Economic Development.

Smith's resignation is effective Saturday, August 20th.  Because he recently won the Democratic primary, Smith will still appear on the November ballot as a candidate for county commissioner.

If Smith gets the job, and wins re-election, he will have to resign again.  The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners will need to appoint a replacement within the next 30 days.  If they fail to do so, the county will have to hold a special election to fill the seat.
