YpsilantiCity Council members will meet tomorrow to vote on the city’s budget for next fiscal year.

Budget expenditures in Ypsilanti's budget draft are slightly more than $14 million. That’s nearly 16% lower than the city’s budget for the current year.

City Manager Ralph Lange says changes like converting streetlights to LED saved the city $120,000, while renegotiating a trash contract saved Ypsilanti $235,000 per year.

He says,

“I think we’re ready for some lean times and not matter what, even if this millage passes, we’re still going to have to be very lean and very careful with our money and keep finding ways to save money or generate extra money.”

Ypsilanti residents will vote on a2.3 millage in August to pay down debt from the Water Street Project. Lange says the funds will not take effect until next fiscal year.
