Ypsilanti Holds Second Community Art Experience Known As YpsiGLOW

Lisa Barry

In the midst of some political controversies involving the future of Ypsilanti, a special arts event is planned for Friday to bring light to the city and help visitors and residents re-imagine what they see around them every day.

It's called YpsiGLOW, and this is the second year it's taking place on the Washington Street block in downtown Ypsilanti.  The streets will be lit with creativity designed to bring people together in new ways. WonderFool Productions that puts on a similar event in Ann Arbor is behind the Ypsilanti "art experience."

Board member and one of the artist's participating Scott Wedemeyer is creating three big paintings celebrating little details.

"I’m trying to give people a sense that there is wonder and beauty even in the everyday,” says Wedemeyer.

Wedemeyer's three 7-foot tall paintings will be in a specially lit room at Go! Ice Cream embedded with secret codes that can be solved with clues hidden around the Washington Street block where YpsiGLOW is taking place beginning at 6:30.
