660 white crosses have been planted in front of the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center in honor of military veterans

660 white crosses have been put on display in front of the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center by the Veteran's Refuge Network.

Each cross represents the number of military veterans who will commit suicide in September.  That's nearly 22 suicides each day, according to the organization.

Ypsilanti Township Clerk Karen Lovejoy Roe says the crosses have been noticed by drivers who stop to look at the exhibit.

The Ypsilanti Charter Township notes:

On Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 6:00pm, there will be a community gathering on site to remember those we've lost to suicide and to discuss how we can turn our awareness into action and be the one to save a life. This is a community event and all are welcome. Cross sponsorships are still available.

Sponsorship for crosses start at $22, with all  the funds will go to help partner veterans with companion and service dogs. For more information you can contact the Veterans Refuge Network online.
