Art and Soul is a new feature on 89.1 WEMU that will focus on our vibrant visual arts community. 

Lisa Barry, host of WEMU's All Things Considered, will work with Omari Rush from the Ann Arbor Art Center to bring you stories about the art and artists that you can see, feel, touch and experience right in your own neighborhood.  Each segment will feature an in depth look at a particular event, installation, artist, etc. along with news and tidbits about what's happening in art around town.  In addition to regular airings on WEMU, Art and Soul will also be a regular web feature with dynamic content with pictures and videos that will help bring the art to life.

This week's Art and Soul is about the art of well-being.  89.1 FM’s Lisa Barry talks with two Ann Arbor men who created a philosophy based blog called Chillpill.  Hien Lam and Matthew Hanson talk about the many choices we make in life and how they impact our happiness and sense of well-being.  Their "Two Minds Philosophy" comes down to a choice whether to have a "game mind" or a "blame mind."

As Ann Arbor’s reputation as a “foodie city” continues to grow, this week’s Art and Soul is about the culinary arts in the area.  89.1 WEMU’S Lisa Barry talks with local writer and food expert Jessica Webster about the many food related events and changes currently taking place.


Neutral Zone

This week’s Art and Soul is about the performance arts in our community.  89.1 WEMU’s Lisa Barry sits down with local journalist and A2 Addict blogger Jenn McKee and Neutral Zone Adult Music Coordinator Charlie Reischl to talk about the “Live on Washington” event in Ann Arbor that is going on Saturday June 3rd from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Part of the purpose of the event is to give teens at Neutral Zone an opportunity to put together a major music event.

Zingerman’s just reopened their refurbished creamery on Plaza Drive.  Now called "Cream Top Shop," it features an expanded retail space that includes seating.  In addition to eating lunch or a snack, you can sit and watch the employees make fine cheeses and creamy gelato.

University of Michigan

This week on Art and Soul, I am joined by University of Michigan professor Dr. Robert Pasick, who holds a PhD in psychology from Harvard University.

Dr. Pasick has written six books with the latest one on self awareness.  It's called "Self Aware-A Guide for Success in Work and Life."

He talks about how well do we know ourselves, how well do we know other people, and how do we manage ourselves and our relationships, including intimacy and one-on-one relationships.
