Art and Soul with Lisa Barry

Second Thursdays 4:35pm every month

Art and Soul is a new feature on 89.1 WEMU that will focus on our vibrant visual arts community. 

Lisa Barry, host of WEMU's All Things Considered, will work with Omari Rush from the Ann Arbor Art Center to bring you stories about the art and artists that you can see, feel, touch and experience right in your own neighborhood.  Each segment will feature an in depth look at a particular event, installation, artist, etc. along with news and tidbits about what's happening in art around town.  In addition to regular airings on WEMU, Art and Soul will also be a regular web feature with dynamic content with pictures and videos that will help bring the art to life.

As the leader of CultureSource, Omari Rush came across a study done about trends in cultural participation across the country.  He brought some of the people involved with the study to Ann Arbor to talk about some of their findings.

Grange Kitchen and Bar

For this week's Art and Soul, 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry is joined by Jessica Webster and the creator and chef of Grange Kitchen And Bar in Ann Arbor, Brandon Johns.  The restaurant was opened nearly 9 years ago as a genuine farm-to-table restaurant trying to serve as much local produce and meats and fish as possible.  Grange presents itself as a place for locally sourced farm-to-table dining.


Ann Arbor Summer Festival

The 35th season of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival kicks off June 5th, and the festival's executive director Mike Michelon joined 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry for this week's Art and Soul to talk about the many different events on the schedule for this year.


Living With Wellness

Dealing with a chronic illness can be difficult for the patient, as well as friends and family members.

This week on Art and Soul: The Art of Well Being, 89.1 WEMU'S Lisa Barry speaks with an Ann Arbor physician Dr. Janet Greenhut and artist Idelle Hammond-Sass about local workshops they conduct called Living Well With Illness.

It took years to turn the old Elbow Room in Ypsilanti into a new Mexican food restaurant called Dolores.  It was created and is run by a married couple Marcela Rubio and Andrew Epstein.

Thriving at work is crucial to many people's sense of well-being.  People are spending more and more time in the workplace and Dr. Gretchen Spreitzer, faculty director for the Center For Positive Organizations at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, says it is ever more important to who we are as individuals to feel fulfilled at work.  She says we spend so much time on the job now, it's about more than just earning a paycheck for many people.
