WEMU and Sesi Motors present the Ramona Collins Quartet at the 5:01
The first Friday of each month join with other WEMU friends for live free entertainment at PJ's.

Dec. 2nd - Ramona Collins Quartet;
Toledo’s finest jazz vocalist with her small ensemble, as swinging and soulful a singer as there is in the Midwest. Ramona appeared regularly at the Bird Of Paradise, so this is a long overdue appearance in Ann Arbor for her.
Jan. 6th - Ron Brooks Trio w/Edie Hyde
Ann Arbor bassist Brooks is one of the great
veterans of the local scene. His group will
include the extraordinary keyboardist
Terry Lower, legendary Detroit drummer
George Davidson, and the bright, inventive
delightful, singing of Hyde.
Feb. 3rd - Ben Jansson Quartet;
Ben Jansson has been making the rounds
lately as a premier saxophone sideman, and
interpreting the music of Thelonious Monk with
his small ensemble. He is a leading light of the
local mainstream jazz youth movement.

March 2nd - Dave Sharp’s Secret Seven;
With an electric or acoustic bass, Sharp and his
acclaimed ensemble weaves through contemporary
club dance, New Orleans, classic modern bop,
mainstream jazz, and even a bit of funk mixed with
world music or ethnic sounds. The All Music Guide described
the band as playing “infectious and joyous music that does
not let up or lose momentum until the final note is played”.
The group includes saxophonist/co-composer Chris Kaercher,
guitarists Andre Frappier, Alex Anest or Kris Kurzawa,
drummer Eric Wilhelm, tabla player John Churchville,
and trumpeter Ross Huff.
April 6th - Ingrid Racine & Friends;
The renowned trumpeter from the U-Michigan jazz
program and Nomo fronts her band that explores
straight ahead, funky and electrified modern jazz.
Racine’s music is geared for the youth market, but
never loses sight of the rich tradition that preceded her.

May 4th - Planet D Nonet;
Drummer R.J. Spangler presents his potent and
spectacular nine piece band, firing on all cylinders with
a lively horn section that plays big band type jazz, from
vintage Fletcher Henderson to bluesy Chicago style
sounds, Duke Ellington and Count Basie charts, up to
modernized, space age sounds of the Sun Ra Arkestra.

June 1st - Vincent York & Friends;
Ann Arbor’s Vincent York came from New Orleans,
was mentored in Florida by Cannonball Addlerley, and
has played his bop style saxophone in the Duke Ellington
Orchestra, with local legends Marcus Belgrave, Roy Brooks
and leads the Jazzistry Project in public school systems.
