After receiving recommendations from the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission, some Ann Arbor city council members want to make improvements to the police department.

A public community reception will be held this Thursday November 5th at the Ann Arbor city hall lobby so you can meet candidates interested in the chief of police job.

In response to the death of 40-year-old Aura Rosser, some Ann Arbor City Council members want a review of police policies including the possibility of having officers wear cameras. A local state lawmaker is working on a plan for all police in Michigan to have body cameras.

As the Michigan State Police investigate Sunday night's shooting of 40-year-old Aura Rosser by an Ann Arbor Police officer, there's one piece of evidence they won't have.  That's a video recording of the incident.  A city council member says discussions about adding body cameras for police officers just became a higher priority in his mind.

The Ann Arbor Police Department is just over one-third of the way through a six month effort to increase pedestrian and motorist safety.  Almost 50 officers have worked overtime in the last two months specifically for the 26 Weeks to Safer Streets Program.
