The search is almost over.  Tonight, the Ann Arbor Schools community will meet with the 2nd finalist for the district's Superintendent position.

Brian Osborne currently heads up the South Orange and Maplewood School District in New Jersey. He'll  be at a forum at Skyline High School at seven tonight to answer any questions the public may have for him. As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, the other finalist, Jeanice Swift, went through the same process on Monday night.

Bob Eccles

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education Monday night approved sending a letter to state Treasurer Andy Dillon asking for an extended period of time to re-pay its debt. WEMU's Bob Eccles has the story. 

The Art Fairs begin this week in Ann Arbor. Tonight, locals get a pat on the back for being good sports about hosting the large crowds the  fairs bring to the downtown area. As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports,  there will be plenty to do at tonight's kick-off to Art fairs week.

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education will meet tonight in what, technically, is it's first-ever regular session. WEMU's Bob Eccles has more on the agenda before the board tonight.


New Jersey's South Orange and Maplewood Schools Superintendent Brian Osborne and Colorado Springs District 11 Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Jeanice Swift are the finalists to be Ann Arbor's next superintendent.

The Ann Arbor School Board narrowed the field of candidates Tuesday afternoon after wrapping up interviews with the six semi-finalists.

The board plans on checking references and visiting the districts later this week.

Ann Arbor Public Schools will use almost one-point-two million dollars in reserves to balance next year's budget.  as WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, the School Board early this morning approved the district budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year.

Mr. B's Joybox Express is getting ready to bike the length of the Mississippi River, from Minnesota to New Orleans this fall, and WEMU is getting ready to follow the ride.   Mark Braun, aka Mr. B., spoke with WEMU's David Fair about the project and what the Joybox entourage plans to do along the way.

The President of Washtenaw Community College and school's faculty agree that better communication is needed at the school, but how to achieve that remains a question.  Faculty members spoke out at Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting in the wake of the dismissal of Vice-President for Instruction, Stuart Blacklaw.

The Ypsilanti school board last night received a presentation on the district's efforts to eliminate the achievement gap, but as WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, the presentation may have been a little too thorough, at least for one board member.

U.S. Partnership for Education and Sustainable Development

Today David talks about government policies regarding recycling, renewable energy, and environmental impact with Debra Rowe, President of the U.S. Partnership for Education and Sustainable Development.

Efforts to unify the Ypsilanti and Willow Run school districts will continue.   School boards for both districts have approved a resolution to continue to work toward consolidation.
