The elimination of four sports programs at Eastern Michigan University was a controversial topic during the university's Board of Regents meeting Friday afternoon.  Over 150 people attended and overflow rooms were used.

Halting construction projects on campus, reinstating sports teams, and putting a stop to staff layoffs were among seven demands the "Better University is Possible Coalition" presented to Eastern Michigan University's president today.

As part of a budget restructuring plan, Eastern Michigan University will cut four of its sports teams.  Softball, men's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and wrestling are the teams that will be eliminated this year.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan covered the announcement this morning at Eastern's Convocation Center.

If HBO has it right, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics has lost well over $50 million over the past two years.  That doesn't sit well with many on campus.  Now that the program "Real Sports" on HBO has highlighted EMU sports, the conversation is expanding nationwide.  We caught up with the vocal critic of athletic spending highlighted in the cable news report, Howard Bunsis.

Eastern Michigan University offers a diverse range of majors and opportunities including  a "Running Science Lab" which recently moved into Rackham Hall.  This allowed them to offer expanded services to the public with increased flexibility.

Its rare for Eastern Michigan University to cheer for the New York Mets during the baseball World Series, but they are doing it because of a local connection. Terry Collins, the current manager for the Mets graduated from EMU in 1971 and was a student athlete at the university.

EMU Football Players Help Promote Literacy

Eastern Michigan University football players scored a touchdown with kids at Adams STEM Academy Friday.

The athletes visited the school as part of a joint effort between EMU and the 2nd & Seven Foundation to promote literacy among young children.

EMU Assistant Athletic Director for Academics Erin Burdis says the kids get a lot out of these visits, and learn about the importance of reading and being a good citizen.
