EMU Student Government

Eastern Michigan University's student body president says the improvement in safety on and off campus from a year ago is "100 percent."  Desmond Miller and his fellow students return to class Wednesday.

Miller says EMU and the city of Ypsilanti have made safety a priority in the wake of the off-campus murder of student-athlete Demarius Reed last October and the un-solved homicide of student Julia Niswender in her off-campus apartment in December of 2012.

A flash mob at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center re-enatcted Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video at lunchtime today.

Dinah Nasari is Director of Student Relations for EMU's Student Government, and also participated in the spur-of-the-moment performance.  She says the idea came from members of student government:

Nasari says part of the reason for organizing the flash mob was to help take students' minds off recent serious events, including the death of an EMU student-athlete.

EMU Student Government Makes Funding About-Face

Apr 24, 2013

Eastern Michigan University Student Government has decided to fund the recent campus visit of the traveling "Genocide Awareness Project" exhibit.

EMU Students for Life had requested about $5,000 to help support the exhibit, which uses graphic photos to equate abortion with genocide.

The request was originally declined, but after a review of student government procedures for funding student organizations prompted by a lawsuit, EMU Student Government decided to provide the funding.
